Western Gray Squirrel (Sciurus griseus)

Description: Western Gray Squirrels (Sciurus griseus) are large, gray tree squirrels with long, overly bushy gray tails. The belly is white. The head and body are about 9-12 inches long, and the tail is another 10-12 inches long.

This species lives from about sea level up to about the Canadian (Pine-Fir Forest) Life Zone. Look for them in pine forests, especially piney woods with oaks.

Don't look for this species around Las Vegas, rather, look for them in California, western Oregon, and central Washington. In particular, look for them while hiking in the lower and middle elevations in Yosemite National Park.
