General: Red Swamp Crayfish (Procambarus clarkii), also called Crawfish, Crayfish, or Crawdads, are freshwater crustaceans similar to lobsters with claws and a flipper tail. They are native to the southeastern United States, but they are a widely introduced pest species. In Nevada, crayfish can be found in many water bodies where they eat native frogs, toads, fish, and any other aquatic creature they can catch. Our native aquatic species are already having a hard time surviving in the desert southwest, so don't release these pests into streams or ponds around the desert!
