Chinese Goose (Anser cygnoides)

General Description: Chinese Geese (Anser cygnoides) are domestic geese bred from wild geese native to China. These geese have escaped or were released from captivity and now live "wild" in local ponds and lakes around Las Vegas. Chinese Geese breed with other forms of domestic geese, producing a motley range of mixes.

Chinese Geese are recognized by the dark stripe down the back of the otherwise white neck, and they have a large knob on the top of the bill.

Taxonomy: Anseriformes, Anatidae, Anserinae

Favored Habitat: Ponds in parks and neighborhoods.

Where to Find: Neighborhood ponds and city parks (e.g., Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park, and Floyd Lamb State Park).

Comments: Be sure to bring corn or peas rather than bread, which is bad for their digestive systems.
