Common Buckeye (Junonia coenia)

General: The Common Buckeye Butterfly (Junonia coenia) is a fairly common butterfly recognized by their dark wings with large eyespots along the margin. On the hindwing, one eyespot is much larger than the other.

Taxonomy: Family: Brush-footed Butterflies (Nymphalidae); Subfamily: True Brushfoots (Nymphalinae).

Comments: During summer, occurs throughout most of North America; winters in southern US from California to Florida and southward.
