General: Common Buckeye Butterflies (Junonia coenia) are recognized by their dark wings with large eye-spots along the margin. On the hindwing, one eye-spot is much larger than the other.

Taxonomy: Family: Brush-footed Butterflies (Nymphalidae); Subfamily: True Brushfoots (Nymphalinae).

Comments: During summer, Common Buckeye Butterflies occur throughout most of North America, but they winter in southern areas from California to Florida and southward.
