General: Sagebrush Checkerspot Butterflies (Chlosyne acastus neumoegeni) are recognized by their black and orange pattern. The dorsal surface is black and orange, and the hindwing is dark at the base. The underside of the hindwing is white spots on an orange background.

Comments: Occurs throughout the western US. This species can be common during spring around Las Vegas. Feeds on members of the sunflower family.
