Hairy Darkling Beetle (Edrotes orbus)

General: Hairy Darkling Beetles (Edrotes orbus) are small, fast moving beetles of the desert with an all-black carapace and long, white hairs.

Where to Find: I have seen this species on the Nevada Test Site, the floor of Death Valley, and along Interstate 15 northeast of Las Vegas, and at Red Rock Canyon NCA. They are only active at certain months of the the year, including January and February, and March (i.e., they are even active in the cold months of late winter).
