General: Garden Spiders (Family Araneidae) to be colorful, medium sized spiders that have long legs. These spiders tend to sit in ornamented web with their legs held in an X-shaped pattern.

The web ornaments are white silk strung in X or zig-zag patterns that make the web easily visible, even reflecting ultraviolet light. It is thought that the web ornaments reduce the chance of large animals walking into and destroying the web.

Like all spiders, Garden Spiders have fangs and venom. However, they are generally harmless to humans because of their small size.
