Pahrump Poolfish (Empetrichthys latos latos)

General: Pahrump Poolfish (Empetrichthys latos latos) are small, guppy-like fish that used to live in springpools and streams in Pahrump, Nevada. Development in the Pahrump area dropped the watertable, and the spring where they lived (Manse Spring) went dry. The remaining fish were rescued, and now live only in man-made refugia. I understand that there is a refugia at Boulder Dam that I have never seen, and another at Corn Creek on the Desert National Wildlife Range that is open to the public. The species is listed as Endangered.

Pahrump Poolfish (Empetrichthys latos latos) Hard to see through the algae growing on the glass, but this mottled female Pahrump Poolfish survives only in the Corn Creek refugia. Algae is her main food.
