Ash Meadows Amargosa pupfish (Cyprinodon nevadensis mionectes)

Ash Meadows Amargosa Pupfish (Cyprinodon nevadensis mionectes) occurs only in small springs and streams on the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. These fish are fairly common where they occur and can be seen in most of the larger springs and streams.

These fish are easy to see in Crystal Spring (end of boardwalk trail by the Refuge Office) and at the Point of Rocks Springs, especially King Pool (about 5 miles east of the Refuge Office). Watch them as they swim around, chaise each other, and feed on algae.
