Palm Warbler (Setophaga palmarum)

General Description: Palm Warblers (Setophaga palmarum) are sexually monomorphic warblers, but with two races. Both races are olive above with a yellow eyeline and a rusty cap, streaks on the breast and belly, and yellow around the base of the tail. In the western race, the belly is white with a bit of yellow wash; but in the eastern race, the belly is all yellow. Winter and young birds are similar, but dull.

Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Parulidae. Formerly Dendroica palmarum.

Favored Habitat: Breeds in thickets at edge of spruce bogs; winters in brushy edges, marshes, lawn edges.

Where to Find: Don't look for Palm Warblers around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them on trips to Canada during summer or to the Southeast during winter. Regularly found along west coast during migration.

Comments: Constantly bobs tail while foraging.
