Mountain Chickadee (Poecile gambeli)

General Description: Mountain Chickadees (Poecile gambeli) are tiny gray birds with a thin, pointy beak. The top of the head and throat are black, the face is white, and there is a white eyeline.

Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Paridae.

Favored Habitat: Piney woods (Yellow Pine Forest, Pine-Fir Forest, and Bristlecone Forest) in the mountains, also desert canyons in the Pinyon-Juniper Woodlands during winter.
Mountain Chickadee (Poecile gambeli)

Where to Find: Mountain Chickadees are birds of the mountains, although they can be found in brushy desert canyons during winter. Look for them on Mt. Charleston and other mountain areas during most of the year, and check Willow Springs and other Red Rock Canyon NCA areas during winter.
