General Description: Great Horned Owls (Bubo virginianus) are large, chunky, dark owls with long ear tufts (the "horns") and a white throat. The overall color is gray, but there is some rust mixed in, and the facial disk is rusty colored.
Taxonomy: Strigiformes, Strigidae.
Favored Habitat: Desert scrub with cliffs where they would roost in caves or crevices, or areas with old building or barns. |
