American Pipit (Anthus rubescens)

General Description: American Pipit (Anthus rubescens) are small, sparrow-like birds with a thin-pointy bill, a streaked breast, a white or buffy eyeline, and white outer tail feathers. Pipits are ground birds that would rather walk (not hop) than fly.

Favored Habitat: Around Las Vegas, bare fields and shorelines during winter.

Where to Find: Look for them at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and Overton Wildlife Management Area.

Comments: Winter visitors and migrants.
