General Description: Crissal Thrashers (Toxostoma crissale) are large, sexually monomorphic, dark brown birds with a long, decurved bill and a rusty crissum (feathers under the base of the tail).

Favored Habitat: Mojave Desert Scrub where they can scratch in leaves on the ground for bugs.

Where to Find: Thrashers are always hard to find, but look for Crissal Thrashers in brushy desert areas such as Corn Creek, the brushy edges of the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, and the mesquite thickets at Sunset Park.
