General Description: Marbled Godwits (Limosa fedoa) are large shorebirds with long legs and a long, slightly up-curved bill. The bill is pink towards the base and dark towards the tip. The overall color is orange-brown with dark patterning on the back. In flight, cinnamon color shows in the wings. During the breeding season, they have barring on the chest, which is lost during winter.

Taxonomy: Charadriiformes, Scolopacidae, Scolopacinae.

Favored Habitat: Grassy meadows during summer, mud flats and salt marshes during winter.

Where to Find: Don't look for Marbled Godwits around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them on the coast during winter. However, it is always worth keeping an eye out for this species during migration at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, the Pahranagat Valley, and the Overton Wildlife Management Area.

Comments: Breeds in central Canada; winters along both coasts of the US and south to Central America.
