Band-tailed Pigeon (Patagioenas fasciata)
Typical view: a pigeon in the top of a dead conifer.

General Description: Band-tailed Pigeons (Patagioenas fasciata) are large pigeons of the mountains. They have a broad, light colored band across the end of the tail, and a narrow, dark band above that. They also have a white stripe across the back of the head and a patch of iridescent greenish feathers on the back of the neck below the white stripe.

Favored Habitat: Mountain areas.

Where to Find: Mt. Charleston area. In Kyle Canyon, they used to roost in a dead tree adjacent to the public library (across the main road from the fire station), but the tree was cut down in 2007. Check the tops of other tall dead trees in the area.
