Snowy Egret (Egretta thula)

General Description: Snowy Egrets (Egretta thula) are small white herons. All of the feathers are white, the facial skin is yellow, and the bill and legs are black. The feet are bright yellow. In breeding season, Snowy Egrets get feathery plumes on the back.

Taxonomy: Pelecaniformes, Ardeidae

Favored Habitat: Ponds with shallow edges and marshes.

Snowy Egret (Egretta thula)

Where to Find: Neighborhood ponds, parks (e.g., Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park), and the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. To find them in more natural habitat, visit the Pahranagat Valley or the Overton Wildlife Management Area.

Comments: Also call "Golden Slippers" in reference to the yellow feet.
