General Description: Black-necked Stilts (Himantopus mexicanus) are long-legged wading birds that are black over white with reddish legs.

Favored Habitat: Shallow marshes and mudflats with barren islands for resting and breeding.

Where to Find: Around Las Vegas, look for this species at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, the Pahranagat Valley, and the Overton Wildlife Management Area.

Comments: Summer breeders in our area.
