General
Description: Green-winged Teal (Anas crecca)
are
small, sexually dimorphic pond ducks. Males are light gray with a black butt, a reddish-brown (chestnut) head, and a green patch behind the eye. Females are mottled brown overall. Both
genders have green on the upper
surface of the wing that usually is concealed, but shows in flight.
Favored Habitat:
Ponds and marshes.
Where to Find: Green-winged
Teal are not common around Las Vegas, but look for them at the Henderson
Bird Viewing Preserve, the Pahranagat
Valley, and the Overton
Wildlife Management Area.
