Feral Domestic Ducks (Anas domesticus)

General Description: Feral Domestic Ducks (Anas domesticus) are ducks that escaped or were released from captivity and now live "wild" in local ponds and lakes. Most domestic ducks are white or brown, but they come in a motley range of mixes. Most domestic ducks are descended from wild Mallards, and it is not uncommon to see overly large, domestic mallards in neighborhood ponds.

Favored Habitat: Ponds in parks and neighborhoods.

Where to Find: Neighborhood ponds and city parks (e.g., Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park, and Floyd Lamb State Park).

Comments: Be sure to bring stale bread or popcorn.
