Mega Road Trip to Far-Eastern Canada, June 20
June 20

June 20, 2014. Gros Morne National Park to Notre Dame Provincial Park

We expected a wet day and we got it. It rained all night, but about dawn, at 3 AM, it calmed a bit and we made a restroom run. Back in bed with constant rain, we slept late, ate breakfast inside, and finally got out about 10 AM when the rain let up a bit.

We went for a damp walk around the campground and actually saw a Gray-cheeked Thrush, plus several White-throated Sparrows and tons of American Robins (if you ever wondered where Robins go during summer, this is it).

We decided to use the rainy day to put on some miles. We stopped at Gros Morne National Park Visitor Center and learned that the trail up Gros Morne Mountain was closed to protect nesting Rock Ptarmigans! So even if the day were warm and sunny, we still couldn't hike up to see them -- that made missing them on a rainy day a bit easier. We did manage a walk in the rain to a nice waterfall.

We drove on towards the East Coast and stopped at Notre Dame Provincial Park. The rain stopped in the late afternoon, so we had a nice evening in camp. We expect more rain by morning.
