August 26, 2011. Backpacking Trip Day 1 -- Backpacking down the Metolius River. We drove from Portland south to Eugene, then turned east and drove out to Camp Sherman. We visited the head of the Metolius River, an enormous spring. After feed ourselves, and feeding the fish, we packed up and hit the trail. We only hiked about a mile, but found a great campsite on the edge of the river.
