Camping and Backpacking in Yosemite -- August 2010

Annual Backpacking Trip to Yosemite -- August 2010

Liz and I headed to Yosemite National Park for our annual visit and backpack. My sister Cathy and her family met us there. Together we did some sightseeing and a 3-day backpacking trip.

	101012. Day 01, August 12. Traveling from Sagehen Meadows, where we stayed with botanist friends, to Porcupine Flat Campground in Yosemite National Park.
	101013. Day 02, August 13. Liz and I drove down to Yosemite Valley and on to the Mariposa Grove at the south end of the park.
	101014. Day 03, August 14. Liz and I wandered around Tuolumne Meadows while waiting for Cathy and her family to arrive. We took adjacent campsites along Porcupine Creek.
	101015. Day 04, August 15. We drove down to Yosemite Valley to see the sights and spent much of the day hiking around the less crowed west end of the valley.
	101016. Day 05, August 16. On our first day of backpacking, we hiked down Porcupine Creek trail from Tioga Road to the lip of Yosemite Valley. We set up camp along Lehemite Creek, then dayhiked west to the top of Yosemite Fall and back. In the evening, several deer wandered through camp feeding on tasty morsels in the darkness.
	101017. Day 06, August 17. On our second day of backpacking, we hiked from Lehemite Creek to North Dome, then continued to Indian Rock and Snow Creek.
	101018. Day 07, August 18. On our third day of backpacking, we hiked down Snow Creek to Yosemite Valley using the steepest, maintained trail in the park.
	101019. Day 08, August 19. Peter and the boy headed off early to their first of two days at the Yosemite Rock Climbing School. Cathy, Liz, and I relaxed and wandered around Yosemite Valley, then headed for Tuolumne and Porcupine Flat Campground.
	101020. Day 09, August 20. In the high country again, Peter and the boy headed off early to their second of two days at the Yosemite Rock Climbing School. Cathy, Liz, and I relaxed at camp and wandered around Tuolumne Meadows. In the evening we went out to the Soda Springs, and watched the sun set from Olmstead Point.
	101021. Day 10, August 21. Cathy, Peter, and the boys headed off early to fly home, while Liz and I headed home more slowly.
