Liz, Mocha, and I had the good fortune of substituting for the regular caretaker during 11 days in late September, 2012. We relaxed, took care of the area, pulled lots of weeds, and explored the surrounding countryside.

The Walking Box Ranch is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and managed by University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) Public Lands Institute. The area is watched by a caretaker and three law enforcement officers who live onsite. The site is available for researchers, but otherwise it is closed to the public until the old buildings and facilities are restored.
