Sandstone Road Trailhead is located in Calico Basin, which is about 1.5 miles before the beginning of the Scenic Loop Road in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, about 30 minutes west of Las Vegas.

From town, drive out towards Red Rocks. From Charleston Blvd at Highway 215 (the western beltway) (Table 1, Site 516), drive west on Charleston Blvd for 3.8 miles to Calico Basin Road (Site 520). The turnoff is about 1.5 miles before the entrance to the Scenic Loop. Turn right onto Calico Basin Road and drive north, then west, for about 1 mile to where the paved road makes a 90-degree turn to the right (opposite the entrance to Red Springs Picnic Area).

Staying outside the picnic area, continue right on Calico Basin Road. At the next intersection, turn left onto Assisi Road. At the next intersection, turn right onto Sandstone Road. Drive north to just before the turnaround at the end of Sandstone Road and turn left onto a dirt spur road (Site 0971). Park here; this is the trailhead.

Sandstone Road Trailhead provides access to hikes and rock climbing in the Calico Basin area, including Gateway Canyon Loop, Gray Cap Peak, and Ash Canyon. A large number of unmarked trails crisscross the area, providing access to the sandstone cliffs, several springs, and several miles of relatively flat walking.
