Harris Saddle where you can first look north to see Kyle Canyon (view west). |
Overview
This is a moderately strenuous, 5-mile hike that climbs about 2,500 feet from the Harris
Canyon trailhead to the South Loop Trail junction. The Harris Canyon trail generally is
open, airy, sunny, and not too steep. The views from alone many parts of the trail are grand.
The trail mostly follows sidehills, contouring up and around Harris Mountain to
Harris Saddle, and then along the east
ridge of Griffith Peak. Near the
summit, the trail contours around the south side of the peak to the
west ridge, then continues westward to a junction with the South Loop Trail on the ridge between
Griffith Peak and Charleston Peak.
The road to the trailhead is a bit rough, and a high-clearance vehicle is a good idea, but not
entirely required (weather permitting), and a careful driver could get there in any vehicle. |

Brushy area with great views to the southwest. |
