The Old Garage at the Walking Box Ranch is falling down, and the collection of old equipment and neat junk has been removed. One of the caretaker's daily responsibilities is to ensure that the remains of the garage have not been disturbed. The area currently is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and managed by Friends of Avi Kwa Ame. The area is watched by a caretaker, and three law enforcement officers live on-site in travel trailers. The site is available for researchers and occasional tours, but otherwise it is closed to the public.
